Make barcodes, QR codes and product labels in 15 formats, with the check digit worked out for you. Exact size for your printer, PNG, SVG or PDF.

How to use the barcode generator

  1. Choose the barcode type and type your value. For EAN and UPC you can leave off the last digit and it is added for you.
  2. Make a barcode only, or a product label with a name, SKU, price and other details. Set the size in millimeters or inches and your printer’s DPI.
  3. Download PNG, SVG or PDF, or print at real size.

Frequently asked questions

Which barcode type should I use?

For products sold in stores, use UPC-A in the US and Canada and EAN-13 elsewhere. For your own inventory, shipping or SKUs, Code 128 is the most flexible. For very small parts, use Data Matrix.

What is a check digit?

The last digit of EAN, UPC and ITF-14 codes. It is calculated from the other digits so scanners can catch typing mistakes. Enter the code without it and we add it, or with it and we check it.

Can I make my own UPC numbers?

You can make any barcode for internal use. To sell in retail stores, you need numbers licensed to your company by GS1 (gs1us.org in the US).

What size should a barcode be?

UPC-A and EAN-13 are 100% size at a bar width of 0.33 mm (about 37 × 26 mm). You can go down to 80%. For Code 128 on labels, keep the narrowest bar at 0.25 mm or more.

Why choose the printer DPI?

Bars must line up with the printer’s dots to stay the right width. Thermal label printers are usually 203 or 300 DPI, office printers 600.

Which file should I download?

SVG for designers and packaging (it scales without blur), PDF to print or send to a print shop, PNG for Word, websites and label software.
