Frequently asked questions
How do I remove sales tax from a total?
Divide the total by 1 plus the rate. For example, $108.25 with 8.25% tax is $108.25 ÷ 1.0825 = $100.00 before tax.
Why is my receipt rate higher than the state rate?
Many cities, counties and special districts add their own sales tax on top of the state rate.
Which states have no sales tax?
Alaska, Delaware, Montana, New Hampshire and Oregon have no statewide sales tax, although some Alaska towns charge a local one.
